Streaming: A technique for transferring
data in a fashion where it can be processed as a steady and
continuous stream. Streaming technologies are becoming increasingly
important with the growth of the Internet because most users
do not have fast enough access to download large multimedia
files quickly. With streaming, the client browser or plug-in
can start displaying the data before the entire file has been
transmitted.
Encoding: The process of creating
digital files that can be used on the internet, from analog
medium.
Media Player: In order to view streaming clips, you will
need a player, which is a special program which uncompresses
and sends video data to the display and audio data to speakers.
A player can part of a browser or downloaded from the software
maker's Web site. For Media Player downloads Please consult
the links below:
On-Demand Streaming: Static
pre-recorded files containing audio/video information that
are streamed to the end-user using a Media Player, or embedded
in a web page. On-Demand streaming files are uploaded to the
server and then broadcasted from our media servers.
Live Streaming: Streaming audio/video
that is not sent from prerecorded video files, but rather
distributed as part of a live broadcast "feed."
In a live broadcast, the video signal is converted into a
compressed digital signal and transmitted from our media servers.
The live feeds are sent "unicast" to multiple users
at the same time.
Unicast: A client/server connection
in which a client receives an on-demand stream of stored content
from a server, or receives a broadcast of live content. No
other client has access to this stream. In contrast, a single
multicast stream is available to multiple clients.
Multicast: A client/server connection
in which a client receives an on-demand stream of stored content
from a server, or receives a broadcast of live content. No
other client has access to this stream. In contrast, a single
multicast stream is available to multiple clients.
Media Formats: Video and audio
content needs to be encoded before it can be streamed. There
are several types encoding and numerous software programs
that you may use to encode content. Usually, a computer that
is running encoding software is referred to as an "encoder".
The encoder's purpose is to translate analog signals (which
computer's cannot use), to digital signals (which computer's
use). Our supported media format types are listed below :
If you have content that you would like to stream but is not
in an supported format,(.wav, .mpg, .avi, .au) you must encode
the media to a supported format (.mov, .wmv, .asf, .rm, .wmv,
.wma) so that it can be streamed.
* *only Windows Media is currently supported
for live streaming.
